Room share and ride share information is available on the Discussion Board. Please join this Facebook group to find room and ride share information. To join this Facebook Group you will need a Facebook account.Weather Snowbird is located in the central portion of the Wasatch Mountain Range of northern Utah, with its primary recreation facilities located between 8000 to 9000 feet above sea level. The weather of Snowbird exemplifies a mountain location that is pleasant to visit in the summer, bright and colorful in the autumn, and snowy and exciting on the winter. As a person travels from the Salt Lake Valley up Little Cottonwood Canyon to Snowbird, there is an elevation change of about 4,000 feet. Climatically, this is like traveling about 400 miles north – from Salt Lake City to northern Idaho, for Snowbird’s climate features cool, pleasant summers, and cold, crisp winters with generous portions of sunshine, blue skies, and periodic heavy snowfall. Snowbird’s temperatures and total precipitation figures are unlike those in its adjacent Salt Lake valley. For example, Snowbird’s annual mean temperature at the 8,000 foot level is about 38.2 degrees Fahrenheit, with its annual precipitation averaging 54.7 inches of water and 469.7 inches of snowfall. When you compare those figures to Salt Lake City’s average annual precipitation of 14.7 inches of water and 58.1 inches of snowfall, there is considerable difference. But, in terms of general temperature and precipitation patterns, Snowbird is very much like its adjacent valleys, for its warmest months are June, July, and August, and most of its precipitation comes during the colder months of winter and spring. Because of Snowbird's high altitude, it is colder and drier, and the ultraviolet rays from the sun are stronger. Each of these changes may have unpleasant effects on your body. Read about how to make sure you're making the best of your time in Snowbird and staying healthy at the same time. |
